The Falls of Clyde - the Iron Hull

A die and form is made from a metal bar and a block of hard wood carved to match the curve of the frames to form the shell plating to match the frames, any small adjustments for the plates can be made with the fingers. The IN plates are first soft soldered to the frames, then between each strake a filler piece is added to each frame, after which the OUT plates are soft soldered in place.  These first have the inner edge tinned with just sufficient soft solder to make the joint.  No soft solder should be left on the surface.  The last set of 10 frames are now ready for final assembly using the same jigs and fitting as in the previous set.
